Saint George Island

Saint George Island stretches for 22 miles between the Gulf and Apalachicola Bay, giving visitors two different waterfront experiences in one place. On the Gulf side, beach walks, shell hunting, and sandcastle afternoons set the pace; toward the bay, marshes and paddling routes invite a closer look at coastal wildlife. Beach cottages and vacation homes help give the island its residential feel, and the paved bicycle path offers another way to explore. Around the central village, you can mix a lighthouse visit with browsing local shops, a seafood meal, and an evening of live music.

Make time for Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park at the island’s eastern end. Its undeveloped shoreline, dunes, bay forest, and salt marshes make a rewarding setting for walking, birdwatching, fishing, or simply spending a few hours beside the water. Back near the center of the island, the Cape St. George Lighthouse and museum connect a beach vacation with the coast’s maritime history. A day here can be as simple as a bike ride and a picnic, or as active as a guided fishing trip followed by exploring the island’s restaurants and music spots.
