Eastpoint sits across the bay from Apalachicola and at the mainland approach to St. George Island, but it deserves more than a passing glance on the way to the beach. Stop for a meal overlooking the water, browse a seafood market for something to cook at your rental, and take time to notice the boats and shoreline. It’s a good place to connect the Forgotten Coast’s food with the working waterfront and families behind its maritime traditions.

The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve Nature Center is a particularly rewarding stop for curious travelers and families. Its aquariums introduce the creatures of the river, bay, and Gulf, while exhibits explain how those habitats fit together. Outside, a coastal walk and boardwalks lead through the landscape toward views of the bay. The visit gives beachcombing and wildlife watching a little more meaning: the water beyond the bridge becomes part of a much larger living system. Pair the center with lunch in Eastpoint before continuing to the island or back toward Apalachicola.
